Press Release:
25 September 2019 - Paris, France – With climate change leading to ever greater uncertainty and challenges, the S2S4E project is hosting a day-long innovation camp for companies and organisations looking to get ahead. Climate Sprint: Accelerating Climate Solutions will help participants understand how climate information for sub-seasonal and seasonal time ranges can be used to make better decisions, based on a tool the project is developing that provides forecasts two weeks to three months in advance.
As the S2S4E project focuses on the wind, solar and hydropower sectors, the project’s tool is currently positioned to help actors in renewable energy predict electricity demand and supply, looking at variables such as precipitation, wind speed and solar radiation. However, these variables can also be used for non-energy sectors, so project partners hope to learn how the tool can be applied for other purposes at the camp.
"The tool has been created with energy users in mind, but there are many other sectors that could be using the tool right now. For example, wine producers can use the same temperature forecasts to make decisions about when they should they apply plant protection treatments or harvest their grapes," said Albert Soret from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and coordinator of the S2S4E project.
Climate Sprint participants will receive a training session to learn how the tool works, and representatives from the energy sector will also present best practice examples of how they plan to incorporate the tool into their business operations. The day will end with a coaching and problem-solving workshop, where participants can discuss their specific needs.
Climate Sprint: Accelerating Climate Solutions is a free event open to the public. It will be held in Paris at La Maison du Management on 13 November 2019. If you are interested in attending, please register here. For more information, you can contact Climate Sprint Coordinator Suzi Maurice at suzi.maurice@lgi-consulting.com.
The S2S4E project has received funding from the Horizon 2020 programme under grant agreement n°776787.
