JOIN S2S4E AT COP25

Cop25

The S2S4E project welcomes you to join our sessions at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Madrid on December 11 and 12, 2019.

The EU-funded S2S4E project, aims to provide more reliable and usable climate forecasts for weather-dependent solar, wind and hydropower production. The project’s mission is to help increase global renewable energy resilience and ultimately aid the transition to clean energy, which is inline with COP’s purpose to move forward climate change process and the Paris Agreement.

Join us in Madrid and participate in our sessions:

WEDNESDAY 11 DECEMBER, h 11:00

Climate Innovation for the Energy Transition

Innovation in how to provide climate forecasting can make science actionable. Creating new tools and services that foster the clean energy transition is an instrument for bridging the gaps between practitioners and climate scientists. The session will have an opening talk by Pere Navarro, director of the consorci de la Zona Franca, followed by a dialogue where the innovative aspects in S2S4E will be a unique opportunity to reflect on climate innovation and generate debate with policymakers and energy stakeholders.

SPEAKERS: Invited talk by Pere Navarro. Dialogue with Asun Lera St.Clair, Francisco Doblas Reyes, Isadora Jiménez and Ilaria Vigo.

LOCATION: Sala diálogo, Green zone

WEDNESDAY 11 DECEMBER, h 17:30

Climate Classroom @COP25 - Climate Services for Energy Transition

Ilaria Vigo, environmental economist at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and part of the S2S4E team, will introduce the concept of climate services and how they can better inform decision-making. Participants will explore the role of stakeholders in the co-development of these services. The learning will be based on a concrete example of operational climate service for clean energy: the eu-funded S2S4E project.

SPEAKERS: Ilaria Vigo

LOCATION: IPCC-WMO Pavillion, Blue zone

THURSDAY 12 DECEMBER, h 15:00

Climate Services for Energy Transition: successful stories from Germany and Spain

This session will present the current status of delivery and use of climate services supporting the development of renewable energy in the different geo-political contexts of the two countries. Emphasis will be given to the value chain of the climate services.

SPEAKERS:

Ilaria Vigo (BSC): Decision-making under a changing climate? A climate service for clean energy in Spain and beyond

Tobias Fuchs (DWD): Meteorological services for the energy sector in Germany - today and in a changing climate

LOCATION: IPCC-WMO Pavillion, Blue zone
