A windy January

In January above normal wind speeds are likely to extend across northern and central Europe, particularly in the UK and Ireland, along with Germany and northern France.

In February, above normal winds are predicted to persist in Germany, Poland, southern Sweden and Denmark.

Central and western Europe to see above normal temperatures

Above normal temperatures are likely during the month of December in Italy and countries around the Black Sea, such as Turkey. Additionally, temperatures above the seasonal average are expected to extend across Europe in January, particularly in British Isles, Austria and Czech Republic. On the contrary, in February, temperatures are expected to be below normal around western France and south of the British Isles.

A dry start to winter

A dry start to the winter season is forecasted in most of Europe. Below normal precipitation is particularly anticipated around the Baltic sea, Scandinavia and parts of France.

As winter moves forward, higher than normal precipitation may be observed in the British Isles in January, and in Central Europe and Southern Scandinavia in February.

Less solar radiation

Many areas in Europe are expected to receive less solar radiation than the seasonal norm this winter. December through January, S2S4E forecasts show below normal solar radiation in Scandinavia, Spain and southern France. Germany is expected to receive below normal solar radiation throughout the month of February.
